UBT Leading the Way in Affordable and Innovative Utility Services

Tuskegee, Alabama – (July 5, 2024) – As Alabama’s temperatures climb this summer, so do
residents’ power bills. However, customers of the Utilities Board of Tuskegee (UBT) are
enjoying significantly lower rates compared to those served by Alabama Power, despite the
added challenges and costs of providing quality services in a rural area.

In response to recent reports highlighting the high costs faced by Alabama Power customers,
UBT is proud to reaffirm its commitment to affordability and quality service. According to the
most recent study conducted by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Alabama homes
use around just under 14,000 kWh of electricity each year. That’s around 1,100 kWh each month
on average. With a monthly base charge of $14.50, the average Alabama Power user in Mobile,
Birmingham, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa pays around $180 each month for their bill. UBT
customers are charged only $149.72 for the same usage. This considerable savings is a testament
to UBT’s dedication to serving its community efficiently and effectively.

UBT’s current rate structure includes a customer charge of $15, a rate of $0.102470 per kWh,
and a fuel (power cost adjustment) charge of $0.02 per kWh. These rates are among the lowest in
the state, making UBT a more affordable option for residents.
